Folklore troupe Linđo has been living in Dubrovnik, the city of stone, light, art, history, harmony, tradition and magnificence for almost fifty years. The name originally comes from the most popular dance that has been performed for more than two hundred years with small variations in Dubrovačko primorje, Župa dubrovačka and Konavle, areas around Dubrovnik. Some believe the name was given to honour the once famous dance leader Nikola Lale Linđo who started the tradition of linđo, although there are others who say that it is the folk term for the player of lijerica, an old Dalmatian instrument with three strings. The troupe primarily nurtures and preserves the tradition which is the foundation of its survival as well as of conservation of national and regional cultural identity.  Moreover, they work hard on preservation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage. Regional identity is promoted on performances in Dubrovnik and its surroundings, most significantly as part of Dubrovnik Summer Festival, nationally and internationally known and recognized cultural event, as well as on performances in other parts of Croatia and abroad where they have won numerous awards. Beside performing choreographies arranged by the most important Croatian choreographers, Folklore troupe Linđo boasts noteworthy results: 3,500 concerts seen by more than 2,000,000 national and international visitors; more than 200 promotional tours; more than 3,000 members who danced, sang and played over the years; collection of 1,500 folklore costumes, most of them priceless original antiques whose design and colourfulness catch the eye and witness the richness of national culture and folklore; performances in nearly all European countries as well as in Northern and Southern America and Japan. Linđo is a brilliant cultural event not to be missed in Dubrovnik.
